What We Work On

Hillsport Media has been a trusted partner for major broadcasters for some of the biggest events in rugby – Men’s & Women’s World Cups, Men’s & Women’s Six Nations, Autumn Nations Series, Champions Cup, Challenge Cup, Prem, Prem Rugby Cup, Premiership Women’s Rugby, United Rugby Championship and Major League Rugby. We have also provided personnel to graphics-produce motor racing and snooker broadcasts.

Below, you can find our services. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.

Journalism and Research

Hillsport Media constructs two high-level analytical documents in the lead-up to each event.

NOTES – An extensive overview of the event, providing insight and statistics, highlighting landmarks that will either occur or could potentially be reached, and lifting the lid not just on the “top lines” but also on the fascinating lesser-known information that adds colour and richness to a broadcaster’s coverage. Frequently, our copy is used virtually word-for-word by presenters, analysts, and commentators.

PLAYER INFO – A player-by-player dissection of the individual’s career and background. An entertaining mix of statistics and copy, rather than one or the other. All the essential information, such as date of birth and number of caps won, plus in-depth analysis of both historical and contemporary performances.

TV Graphics Producing

Graphics — the text and numbers shown on screen — have been a part of television broadcasts for decades, but it wasn’t until our founder, Ade Hill, began working for UK broadcaster Sky Sports on their award-winning rugby coverage from its start in 1994 that a dedicated production role began to form as a statistician, providing enriched content for these graphics.

Ade developed this much further after going freelance, being recruited by Sunset+Vine as a key part of their team on ESPN’s coverage of Premiership Rugby. Ade worked alongside three graphics operators on each match, coordinating their activities, formulating content, and offering this to the director and producer to go to air. He was the first “Graphics Producer” — a role now indispensable to comprehensive rugby coverage.

Statistics

Hillsport Media can draw on a comprehensive statistical database encompassing the history of rugby and, more specifically, from working on the entire professional era of club rugby. This provides the bedrock for our work, alongside other trusted sources.
